Student Center Committee Update 2/26

Student Center Committee  February 26, 2013

A student survey conducted recently about a student center was discussed. The committee created the following list of what an ideal student center would include (brainstorming session):

  • Open 24 hours
  • Food option/snack kiosk
  • Space for a lounge setting – host programs/ movies
  • Living room space – comfortable furniture
  • Flexible space to make larger or smaller rooms
  • Academic gateway
  • Variety of seating spaces
  • Computer lab
  • Sound system
  • Flexible lighting – variety of lighting options
  • Dance area
  • Stage area for small bands/entertainers
  • Big screen TV’s
  • Plug in areas for various technologies
  • Gaming Center
  • Ping pong tables
  • Pool tables
  • Air hockey
  • Foosball tables
  • Club and organization space – series of separate rooms
  • Lockers
  • Staffed desk for support – is this useful?

Longer term needs

Student services offices – CAB, Career Services, Academic Support Center, Advising

A Pizza talk has been scheduled for March 20th at 8:30 to invite all students to discuss their vision for a new student center. We plan to create a list of top items to share with this group to gage their interest and support for these items. We would also welcome other suggestions
